6% Moly

Chemipetro Limited offers a large variety of products in 6% Moly (6MO) such as tubing, seamless- and welded pipe, butt weld fittings, flanges, pressure fittings and fasteners:

6 moly

With its high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, 6 Moly alloys have excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals and are especially suited for high chloride environments such as brackish water, seawater, pulp mill bleach plants and other high chloride process streams. They provide a cost-efficient alternative to nickel-based alloys and titanium.

BENEFITS of 6% MOLY

  • High resistance to pitting, crevice and general corrosion.
  • Very high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.
  • 50% stronger than 300-series austenitic stainless steels.
  • Excellent impact toughness.
  • Excellent workability and weldability.

6% MOLY APPLICATIONS

  • Seawater handling equipment; heat exchanger, cooling water pipes
  • Pulp mill bleach systems; drums, vats and press rolls.
  • Tall oil distillation columns and equipment
  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Food processing equipment
  • Desalination equipment
  • Flue gas desulphurization scrubbers
  • Oil and gas production equipment
  • Tanks and pipelines for various chemicals with high halide levels

Although there are a number of different steels you can find in manufacturing, one of the most popular alloys around has got to be super austenitic. These alloys are often preferred, particularly in engineering, because they’re a lot more resistant than many other varieties of steel alloy and as such can be used in many more applications.

What are super austenitic steel alloys?

Super austenitic steel alloys are those that are composed of at least 50% non-ferrous elements, making them particularly durable and resistant to damage. A few of the applications that this type of alloy can be effectively used in includes seawater equipment, oil distillation columns, gas production equipment and chemical pipelines, among many more.

Types of these alloys

The term “super austenitic” doesn’t apply to just one type of steel alloy. On the contrary in fact – there are several types of steel alloy of this kind, with just a few being f44, 254smo, 1.4547 and uns s31254. Here’s a quick overview of what each alloy entails.

F44: f44 is a particularly high-performance alloy with high levels of both nickel and nitrogen. This makes f44 resistant to seawater corrosion as well as acid and stress corrosion, resulting in f44 pieces rarely cracking under pressure.

254smo: 254smo is an alloy that has high levels of chromium, nitrogen and molybdenum, again making it particularly appropriate for chlorine environments. 254smo is an incredibly strong alloy that resists cracking and is ideal for use in critical components that other alloys couldn’t live up to.

1.4547: 1.4547 is another alloy high in molybdenum, making it ideal for use in seawater environments. 1.4547 has excellent resistance to corrosion, far superior to that of regular stainless steel, and 1.4547 also has superior strength thanks to its high nitrogen content.

Uns s31254: uns s31254 is another name for both f44 and 254smo, with uns s31254 being an alloy that’s ideal for use in seawater, with superior corrosion resistance, strength and workability.

All of the above alloys are basically the same thing just with slightly different levels of each metal.

Super austenitic alloys at Chemipetro

Whatever your stainless steel alloy requirements, Chemipetro Limited will be able to accommodate whether you’re looking for uns s31254 or indeed anything else. Nearly all products in our vast product range are available using these super alloys including pipe, flanges, fasteners, butt weld fittings and pressure pipe fittings. Despite their superior strength and corrosion resistance these alloys are in fact often known as cost-effective alternatives to titanium or other alloys that are nickel-based, yet have the same distinct advantages.

At Chemipetro, we pride ourselves on offering customers the best materials. As such, these “super” alloys including uns s31254, 254smo and 1.4547 are one of our top-selling materials across all our product ranges, and with their wide range of applications and numerous advantages it really isn’t hard to see why. So, check out Chemipetro for all of your super austenitic stainless steel needs and see what we have to offer.
