Identification
Titanium was first identified in 1791 by an amateur geologist named William Gregor when he isolated it in sand that he was taking samples of. However, this new substance did not receive an official name until 1795, when German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth decided that it should be named after the famous Titans from Greek mythology.

Modern applications
It was more than a hundred years until the first usable sample of Titanium was successfully produced and even then, the first commercial samples were not made available until the early 1930’s. However, the Cold War standoff between the USA and the USSR led to many significant developments during the 1950’s, most notably with the Soviets using Titanium in their submarines. Naturally, the Americans followed suit and found the properties of Titanium so indispensable that they quickly declared it to be of strategic importance.

When considering pipe fittings, the shape and materials are important to focus on. Typically pipe fittings come in basic shapes such as round, oval, rectangular or square. The materials used for them do vary but common materials include carbon, steel, and bronze to name but a few.

Manufacture and Storage
Our product manufacture facility currently covers around 23,000 sq. ft.  And we see that as 23,000 sq. ft where everything from the smallest stud bolts to the largest seamless pipe MUST be accounted for and stored safety and in line with HSE regulations.

Environmental Challenges
Although we don’t manufacture and work within the hostile environments our products are often designed for, we implement both legally required and additional product testing to make sure all our stud bolts, flanges and various other components perform with 100% reliability under pressure. In the cases of seamless pipe products we habitually put into practice supplementary testing such as liquid penetrant inspection and hydrogen induced cracking.

HSE Recommendations
The HSE is quick to point out that the simplest of component failures can result in millions of pounds worth of damage and potentially fatal accidents. Ongoing legislature and HSE campaigns push for complete component reliability, comprehensive product testing and the shunning of a “cutting corners in favour of lower costs” attitude throughout the petrochemical industry. Strength
As a pure element, molybdenum has the sixth highest melting point of any element. This makes it an ideal addition to high strength steel alloys. Even in such small inclusive portions (e.g. 6% molybdenum) it can be used to form superalloys with incredible qualities of strength and heat resistance.

Temperature Resistance

Heat resistance can be a factor in every industry, from marine petrochemical transport to aviation and agriculture. 6MO is noted for its ability to resist expansion, contraction, softening and hardening in extremely high temperatures, making it the material of choice for the likes of aviation components, filaments and industrial piping.

Other Qualities
•    Despite showing such significant resistance to high temperatures, 6MO is incredibly dexterous in terms of weldability.
•    6MO is highly resistant to corrosion, stress cracking and pitting.

Component Lifecycle vs. Replacement Costs
It’s an industry-wide conundrum – spend more on longer lasting components (titanium socket weld, flanges etc) or spend less on weaker materials that will need to be replaced sooner. In our opinion, a little extra investment in top quality products, expert engineering and faultless manufacture is always best. We promote titanium as improving the average lifecycle of a component (compared to its lifecycle when made from an inferior material) by around 500%

•    The surface oxide layer of titanium is the element that gives it such astonishing resilience to temperature and corrosion (certainly a worthy quality in terms of components such as tubing, flanges and socket weld)
•    The density of titanium if roughly half the density of other nickel-based alloys.
•    The exceedingly high weight to strength ratio of titanium is perhaps its most well-known quality.
•    Temperature resistance (both high and low) is also an incredibly prominent quality of titanium.
•    Resistance to both erosive and corrosive products makes titanium an invaluable material in the petrochemical industry.
